Maytag Appliance Repair in Irvine and Orange County

Maytag gas dryer opened for a no-heat repair in Orange County

Maytag appliance repair in Irvine and across Orange County, same day, Monday to Saturday. We repair Maytag washers, dryers, refrigerators, dishwashers, ranges and ovens, from the Bravos and Maxima of the 2010s and the top-load and front-load models that replaced them, to the Dependable Care machines still running after decades. The service call is $79, it covers the trip and the diagnosis, and it is applied to the repair when you approve it. You get a written price for parts and labor before any work starts, and it does not change.

Maytag has been a Whirlpool Corporation brand since 2006, and almost everything designed since about 2008 shares platforms with Whirlpool: the Bravos and Centennial top-loaders with the Whirlpool top-loaders, the Maxima and the 2000 and 3000 series front-loaders with the Whirlpool Duet. For a repair this is an advantage. The parts are the same, local distributors stock them, and the fault patterns are well known: suspension rods, the shifter and actuator and the lid lock on the top-loaders built since about 2010 (the motor coupler, the clutch and the lid switch on the earlier direct-drive Centennial); the door lock, the drain pump and the tub bearings on the front-loaders; gas valve coils, the thermal fuse, the door switch and the drum rollers on the dryers. Older Dependable Care washers and dryers from before the Whirlpool years are still in service in Orange County homes, and we repair those too.

Two of our Maytag write-ups show the pattern. A Maytag dryer that stopped heating came down to the gas valve coils and the door switch, and a Maytag washer banging during the spin was fixed with a set of suspension rods. Both are parts we carry.

Maytag appliances we repair

  • Maytag Bravos, Bravos XL and Centennial top-load washers: banging or walking on spin, not spinning or agitating, lid lock blinking, not draining, stored fault codes.
  • Maytag Maxima, 2000 and 3000 series front-load washers: door stays locked, not draining, leaks at the door boot, a roar on spin from the bearings.
  • Maytag gas and electric dryers, including the Bravos, Maxima and Centennial dryers: no heat, will not start, thumping or squealing drum, long cycles.
  • Maytag refrigerators, French-door, side-by-side and bottom-freezer: not cooling, evaporator fan and defrost faults, ice makers, water on the floor.
  • Maytag dishwashers: not draining, not cleaning, not starting, door latch and control panel faults.
  • Maytag ranges and wall ovens, gas and electric: bake igniters, elements, oven sensors, control boards, surface burners that will not light.
  • Dependable Care washers and dryers: belts, pumps, idlers, motors and the lid switches that still fail after thirty years.

Common Maytag problems and how we fix them

Maytag dryer runs but does not heat

Likely causes: on a gas dryer, gas valve coils that open for the first few minutes and then drop out, a weak igniter or a flame sensor; on an electric dryer, a broken heating element, the thermal cut-off on the heater box or a high-limit thermostat (on older Maytag-built dryers the no-heat part is usually the high-limit thermostat or, on some lines, a one-shot fuse on the heater box). A restricted vent is behind many of these failures.

Try this first: clean the lint screen and check the vent outlet outside while the dryer runs. If the flap barely moves, the vent is restricted and the part that failed is the symptom.

How we fix it: we test the coils, the igniter, the sensor and the fuses, replace what failed and tell you if the vent needs cleaning. The Maytag dryer that would not heat is a typical visit.

Maytag dryer will not start

Likely causes: a door switch that no longer closes the circuit, a thermal fuse on the blower housing that has opened, a failed start switch or push-to-start relay, a broken belt on models with a belt switch, or a motor that hums and stops.

Try this first: make sure the outlet is live and the door clicks shut. On a model with a drum light, press the door switch by hand with the dryer plugged in; if the light does not go out, the switch is the first suspect.

How we fix it: we test the switch, the fuse, the start circuit and the motor, and replace the failed part. The Maytag dryer in Westminster needed a door switch, which is on the van.

Maytag washer banging or walking during spin

Likely causes: worn suspension rods on the Bravos and Centennial top-loaders, which let the tub swing into the cabinet on every spin; a washer that is no longer level; or a load of towels bunched on one side.

Try this first: redistribute the load and run a spin with the lid closed. If the washer bangs with a balanced load, push down on an empty tub: a tub that bounces several times instead of settling has tired rods.

How we fix it: we replace all four suspension rods as a set, as on the Maytag washer banging during spin, and level the machine before we leave.

Bravos or Centennial not spinning, not agitating, or lid lock blinking

Likely causes: a shifter and actuator that no longer moves between agitate and spin, a lid lock that does not report closed, a worn splutch or drive hub, or a main control board. These washers store a fault code that points at the circuit. On the direct-drive Centennial from before about 2010 it is usually the motor coupler, the clutch or the lid switch instead.

Try this first: unplug the washer for a few minutes, close the lid firmly and start a drain and spin. If the lid lock light keeps blinking or the tub barely moves, stop and book a visit.

How we fix it: we read the stored codes, test the actuator, the lock and the motor, and replace the failed part. Actuators and lid locks are affordable and usually on the van.

Maxima front-load washer not draining, door stays locked

Likely causes: a drain pump with a jammed impeller or a dead motor, a coin or a bra wire in the pump housing, a kinked drain hose, or a door lock that no longer releases once the tub is empty.

Try this first: unplug the washer and check that the drain hose is not kinked or pushed too far into the standpipe. If your model has a small drain door at the bottom front, drain the tub into a shallow pan and clean the pump trap behind it; on many Maxima and 2000 and 3000 series washers the trap is behind the screwed-on lower panel instead. If the washer still stops full of water on the next cycle, the pump has failed.

How we fix it: we test the pump under power and the lock on the bench, replace the failed one and check the hose route so the problem does not come back.

Maytag front-load washer roaring on spin

Likely causes: tub bearings that have lost their seal and rusted, often with a corroded spider arm behind the drum. The noise grows over months until the spin sounds like a jet.

Try this first: with the washer off, spin the drum by hand and lift it; a grinding feel or more than a little play confirms the bearings.

How we fix it: on most Maytag front-loaders the bearings come with the outer tub, and the labor is long. We give you the price and we are honest when a new washer is the better buy; many are.

Maytag repairs we have written up

What Maytag repair costs

The service call is $79. It covers the trip and the diagnosis, and it is applied to the repair when you approve it. You get one written price for the part and the labor before work starts, and it does not change. On Maytag laundry, a door switch, a thermal fuse, gas valve coils, a lid lock, an actuator or a set of suspension rods is the affordable end; a drain pump, a door lock assembly, a motor or a control board is the middle; a tub bearing job on a front-loader or a compressor on a refrigerator is the expensive end. When the repair comes close to the value of the machine we tell you before you decide, and you pay only the $79 if you stop there.

RepairTypical price, parts and labor
Refrigerator defrost system, fan motor or ice maker$220 to $450
Refrigerator compressor or refrigerant leak (sealed system)$600 to $1,800
Washer drain pump, door lock or suspension$180 to $400
Washer motor, inverter board or bearings$350 to $800
Dryer heating element, igniter, fuse or rollers$150 to $350
Dishwasher drain pump, valve or latch$170 to $350
Dishwasher wash pump or control board$300 to $600
Oven igniter, element or sensor$160 to $350
Oven or range control board$300 to $700

Typical Orange County ranges for parts and labor on common models; the service call is $79 and is applied to any of them. Built-in, professional and commercial units, and parts that have to come from the manufacturer, can run higher. You get the exact written price after the diagnosis and before any work starts.

Repair or replace a Maytag appliance?

Maytag dryers are almost always worth repairing. The parts that fail, coils, fuses, switches, rollers and belts, are inexpensive, and a dryer with a new set of them runs for years. Top-load washers are the same for rods, actuators and lid locks, even at ten or twelve years. Front-loaders are the exception: a drain pump or a door lock is worth doing at any age, but a bearing failure on a Maxima or a 2000 series washer is a long job on an expensive part, and we usually recommend replacement unless the machine is young.

Dependable Care washers and dryers from the 1990s through the mid-2000s are simple machines, and most of their wear parts are still available. If you have one that works, repairing it is usually cheaper than anything you can buy to replace it. Maytag refrigerators follow the general rule: a fan, a defrost part or a valve is worth repairing at any age, a compressor on a mass-market refrigerator older than ten years is a closer call.

Maytag error codes

On the Maytag machines built on Whirlpool platforms since about 2008 the codes are the Whirlpool codes. A Bravos, Centennial or Maxima washer that shows an F and E code pair, a short code such as F51, dL, oL or uL on the older Bravos, or flashes its lid lock and sensing lights in a pattern, is covered in our Whirlpool and Maytag washer error code guide, and a Maytag range or wall oven built since the Whirlpool years that shows an F code is in the Whirlpool, Maytag and KitchenAid oven error code guide, along with the dash-style F1-x and F3 codes on older Maytag-built ranges; the rest of that older code set is Maytag’s own. Write the code down before you unplug the machine and tell us when you book.

How a Maytag service call works

  1. Call or book online. Call (949) 544-5550 or book online. We schedule same-day visits across Orange County, Monday to Saturday, and laundry calls are usually a single trip.
  2. Diagnose. The technician reproduces the fault, reads the stored codes and tests the parts involved rather than replacing the first suspect. The $79 covers this and is applied to the repair.
  3. Written price. Before anything is replaced you get the price for the part and the labor in writing, and that is the price you pay.
  4. Repair. Common parts for the Whirlpool platforms, such as door switches, fuses, coils, lid locks and actuators, are usually on the van. Other parts come from a local distributor, usually the next business day.
  5. Warranty. The part and the labor are covered; a return for the same problem within 90 days has no service-call fee.

Maytag appliance repair FAQ

How much does Maytag appliance repair cost in Orange County?

The service call is $79 and is applied to the repair when you approve it. Switches, fuses, coils, lid locks and suspension rods are the affordable end, pumps, motors and boards the middle, and front-load bearings or a compressor the expensive end. You get the price in writing first.

Why is my Maytag washer banging during the spin cycle?

On a Bravos or Centennial top-loader it is almost always worn suspension rods letting the tub hit the cabinet. We replace all four as a set and level the washer. Redistribute the load first to rule out a simple imbalance.

Why does my Maytag dryer run but not heat?

On a gas dryer the usual causes are the gas valve coils, the igniter or the flame sensor; on an electric dryer the element, the thermal cut-off on the heater box or a high-limit thermostat. A clogged vent is often why the part failed, so we check it on the same visit.

Are Maytag and Whirlpool parts the same?

For laundry built since about 2008, mostly yes; the transitional Neptune, Atlantis and Performa machines sold in the first years after the 2006 purchase still use Maytag-design parts. Maytag is a Whirlpool Corporation brand and shares washer, dryer, dishwasher and refrigerator platforms with Whirlpool, so the parts are common and usually in stock locally.

Do you repair older Maytag Dependable Care washers and dryers?

Yes. Belts, pumps, idlers, lid switches and motors for these machines are still available, and repairing one is usually cheaper than replacing it.

Can you come out the same day for a Maytag repair?

Usually, yes. Same-day appointments are available across Orange County Monday to Saturday, and when the failed part is one of the common ones on the van, the repair is finished on the first visit.

What warranty do you give on a Maytag repair?

The repair is warranted on parts and labor. If the same problem returns within 90 days, we come back with no service-call fee.
