Same-day Whirlpool appliance repair in Irvine and every city in Orange County, seven days a week. We repair Whirlpool washers, dryers, refrigerators, dishwashers, ranges, ovens and microwaves: Cabrio top-loaders that will not spin, Duet front-loaders with a door that will not unlock, gas ovens that will not heat and French-door refrigerators that are warm on top. The service call is $79, it covers the trip and the diagnosis, and it is applied to the repair once you approve the written price for parts and labor.

Whirlpool Corporation, based in Benton Harbor, Michigan, also owns Maytag, KitchenAid, Amana and JennAir and built many Kenmore models (the 110-prefix Kenmore washers and dryers are Whirlpool machines), so a Whirlpool, Maytag or Kenmore washer built after Whirlpool bought Maytag in 2006 is often the same machine with a different badge. The locks, actuators, pumps and igniters are shared across the family, so the common ones ride on the van.

The weak points are well known. On the VMW top-loaders (including the later Cabrio models) it is the lid lock and the shifter actuator; on the original direct-drive Cabrio it is the lid lock, the rotor position sensor and the tub bearing; on the Duet and current front-loaders the door lock first, the drain pump second, and the drum bearings past eight or ten years. Whirlpool dryers lose a thermal fuse or a heating element first, and a gas oven that stops heating almost always has a weak bake igniter. Two recent jobs: a front-load washer door lock in Brea and the bake igniter on a Whirlpool oven in Mission Viejo.

Whirlpool appliances we repair

  • Top-load washers: Cabrio and the VMW platform, with or without an agitator. Lid locks, shifter actuators (VMW), rotor position sensors (direct-drive Cabrio), worn suspension rods and blocked drain pumps.
  • Front-load washers: Duet and the current front-loaders, including stacked pairs. Door locks, drain pumps, door boots, inlet valves and drum bearings.
  • Dryers: gas and electric. Thermal fuses, heating elements, igniters, flame sensors, gas valve coils, rollers, belts and drive motors.
  • Refrigerators: French-door, side-by-side, bottom-freezer and top-freezer. Defrost failures, evaporator fans, ice makers, water valves, dampers and sealed systems.
  • Dishwashers: the shared Whirlpool platform that also sells as KitchenAid, Maytag and Kenmore. Diverter motors, wash and drain pumps, heaters, control boards and door latches.
  • Ranges and wall ovens: gas and electric, freestanding and built-in. Bake and broil igniters, temperature sensors, bake elements, door lock motors, spark modules and control boards.
  • Microwaves: over-the-range and built-in. Door switches, magnetrons, diodes, capacitors and turntable motors.

Common Whirlpool problems and how we fix them

Whirlpool top-load washer stuck on sensing, will not agitate or will not spin

Likely causes: a lid lock the control cannot confirm, a worn shifter actuator that no longer shifts between agitate and spin, a drain pump blocked by a sock, or worn suspension rods that keep the basket off balance.

Try this first: unplug the washer for five minutes and run a spin with the basket empty. If the lid locks and nothing else happens, it is usually the shifter actuator, sometimes the motor or its capacitor; if the pump hums and no water leaves, it is the pump.

How we fix it: we read the stored codes, test the lock, the actuator and its sensor, spin the pump by hand and replace the failed part. Common parts such as lid locks and shifter actuators are usually on the van.

Whirlpool front-load washer door will not lock or will not open

Likely causes: a worn door lock assembly, a bent door strike, a control board that no longer sees the lock, or water left in the drum, which keeps the lock closed on purpose.

Try this first: switch the breaker off for five minutes; many front-loaders release the lock on power-up. If the drum still holds water, run a drain and spin.

How we fix it: we open the door without damage, test the lock and the strike and replace the lock, as in the door lock repair in Brea and the door latch failure in Costa Mesa. F5 E2 (will not lock) or F5 E3 (will not unlock) on the display is the same repair.

Whirlpool dryer runs with no heat, or will not start at all

Likely causes: on an electric dryer a thermal fuse, a heating element or one tripped leg of the 240-volt breaker; on a gas dryer the igniter, the flame sensor or the gas valve coils; for no start at all, a door switch, a belt or the motor.

Try this first: reset the dryer breaker fully off and on, clean the lint screen and check that the vent flap outside opens when the dryer runs. A blown thermal fuse is almost always a symptom of a blocked vent.

How we fix it: we test the fuse, the thermostats, the element or the ignition parts and the motor, and replace the failed part. The Whirlpool electric dryer that would not start in our write-up needed a motor; most do not.

Whirlpool refrigerator warm on top, freezer cold, or no ice

Likely causes: a defrost failure (heater, defrost thermostat or board) that lets the evaporator ice over, a failed evaporator fan, a stuck damper, or for ice, a weak inlet valve, a frozen fill tube, a failed ice maker or a clogged filter.

Try this first: look at the back wall inside the freezer: a sheet of frost means a defrost failure, a clear wall with no fan noise means the fan. For no ice, replace an old filter, confirm the freezer is at 0°F and wait 24 hours.

How we fix it: we test the heater, the thermostat, the board output, the fan and the valve, replace the failed part and clear the ice. Common parts such as evaporator fans and water valves are usually on the van; an ice maker or a board that has to be ordered usually arrives the next business day.

Whirlpool dishwasher not cleaning the top rack, not draining, or blinking a light

Likely causes: a diverter motor that no longer switches water between the spray arms, a worn wash pump, a drain pump blocked by glass, a failed heater, or a control board blinking a fault code on the clean light.

Try this first: clean the filter in the floor of the tub, check the drain hose for a high loop and a kink, and make sure a new garbage disposal had its knockout plug removed.

How we fix it: we read the blink code, test the diverter, both pumps and the heater, and replace the failed part; our Whirlpool and KitchenAid dishwasher error code guide explains the blink patterns.

Whirlpool gas oven not heating, or the display shows an F-code

Likely causes: a bake igniter that still glows but no longer draws enough current to open the gas valve, a failed temperature sensor, a burned bake element on an electric oven, or a control board with a failed relay.

Try this first: turn on bake and watch the igniter through the floor vent. If it glows for more than about 90 seconds and the burner never lights, the igniter is almost always the cause; we confirm it with a current reading before replacing it.

How we fix it: we measure the igniter current, replace the igniter and confirm the burner lights within seconds, as in our Whirlpool oven bake igniter repair in Mission Viejo. The Whirlpool, Maytag and KitchenAid oven error code guide explains each code.

Whirlpool repairs we have written up

What Whirlpool repair costs

The service call is $79. It covers the trip and the diagnosis and is applied to the repair when you approve the written price for parts and labor, which does not change. The affordable end is a thermal fuse, a lid lock, a door lock, a bake igniter, an evaporator fan or a sensor; the middle a shifter actuator, a drain pump, a dishwasher diverter or wash pump, an ice maker or a heating element; the expensive end a drive motor, a control board, drum bearings and sealed-system work. When the honest answer is a new appliance, you pay the $79 and nothing else. Seniors and veterans get 20% off and repeat customers 15% off.

Repair or replace a Whirlpool appliance?

Whirlpool parts are among the easiest to get in this trade, so a Whirlpool appliance with one failed part is almost always worth repairing. A top-loader with a failed lid lock or actuator, a dryer with a failed element or motor, a dishwasher with a failed pump and a range with a failed igniter all come back for a fraction of the price of a new machine.

The exceptions apply to any brand: a front-load washer past ten years with failed drum bearings on a lower-priced model, where the labor comes close to a new washer, and a refrigerator past ten or twelve years with a failed compressor or a refrigerant leak, which we repair in-house when the cabinet is worth it. We put the repair total next to the price of a new appliance and let you decide.

Whirlpool error codes

Whirlpool appliances show fault codes on the display, or as a blink pattern on a dishwasher without one. Washers show F5 E2 for a door lock fault, F8 E1 for no fill and F9 E1 for a slow drain; ovens use F1 for the control board, F3 for the temperature sensor and, depending on the model, F2 for the keypad or for an oven that ran too hot. A code is a starting point, not a diagnosis: a drain code can be a sock or a dead pump. Our guides list the codes and what each usually turns out to be: Whirlpool and Maytag washer error codes, Whirlpool and KitchenAid dishwasher error codes and Whirlpool, Maytag and KitchenAid oven error codes. The same codes apply to Maytag and KitchenAid.

How a Whirlpool service call works

  1. Call or book. Call (949) 544-5550 or book online with the appliance, the symptom and any code on the display. Same-day appointments across Orange County, seven days a week.
  2. Diagnose. The technician runs the appliance, reads the stored codes and tests the part the symptom points to. The $79 covers this and is applied to the repair.
  3. Written price. You get one price for parts and labor before anything is replaced, and it does not change.
  4. Repair. The common Whirlpool parts are on the van; a part that has to be ordered usually arrives the next business day.
  5. Warranty. Parts and labor on the repair are under warranty. If the same problem comes back within 90 days, the return visit has no service-call fee.

Whirlpool appliance repair FAQ

How much does Whirlpool appliance repair cost in Orange County?

The service call is $79 and is applied to the repair. Locks, igniters, fuses, valves and sensors are the affordable end; motors, boards, bearings and sealed-system work the expensive end. You approve a written price before any work starts.

Do you repair Whirlpool Cabrio and other top-load washers?

Yes. Lid locks, shifter actuators, suspension rods, drain pumps and drive motors on the Cabrio and the VMW top-loaders are the common repairs on these machines, and common parts such as the lock and the actuator are usually on the van.

Can you repair my Whirlpool appliance the same day?

Usually, yes. We offer same-day appointments across Orange County seven days a week, and the common Whirlpool parts are on the van.

What warranty comes with a Whirlpool repair?

The repair is covered by a warranty on parts and labor. A repeat of the same fault within 90 days brings us back with no service-call fee on that visit.

Do you carry Whirlpool parts?

Common Whirlpool parts such as lid locks and bake igniters are usually on the van. Boards, motors and less common parts come from local distributors, usually the next business day.

My Whirlpool front-load washer shows F5 E2 and will not start. What does it mean?

F5 E2 means the control tried to lock the door and could not confirm it. Switch the breaker off for five minutes and try again; if the code returns, the door lock has failed or the strike is bent, both common repairs. If the door is locked shut and will not release, the code is usually F5 E3; same lock assembly, same repair.

Are Maytag, KitchenAid, Amana and Kenmore appliances the same as Whirlpool?

Often, yes. Whirlpool Corporation owns Maytag, KitchenAid, Amana and JennAir and built many Kenmore models (the 110-prefix washers and dryers), and the laundry, dishwasher and cooking platforms share parts. We repair all of them, and the Whirlpool error code guides apply to those brands too.
